Travel Information

The closest airport to Spetses Island is Athens International Airport.  Traveling from the airport to Spetses Island takes between 3 and 4 hours.

1. Bus shuttles on September 3 (please note that we are NOT organizing a return bus on Sep 9; there will be a bus on Sep 10 will leave at 9:00 for Chromatin Plasticity members)

There will be 2 free buses from Athens International Airport to the pier in Costa (travel time: 2 hours, 30 mins).  A water taxi from Costa to the Anargyrios & Korgialenios School (or close to it) will also be provided. 

Bus 1: will leave around 12:00 from EXIT 5 in the Arrivals level
Bus 2: will leave around 15:00 from EXIT 5 in the Arrivals level

Two students, Aleksandra Pekowska (12:00) and Tina Diamantara (15:00), will be waiting at EXIT 5 in Arrivals 1 hour before the bus departs.

If you have informed us of your airline and arrival time they will check whether your flight is on time or delayed so that they will know whether they should wait a little.

If your flight is delayed by more than half an hour, the bus can unfortunately not wait and you will have to take the next bus or find your own way to the island.

If you know that you will be delayed and have access to a phone, please call Stephanie Wendlberger (cell phone number in email sent to all participants), and she will pass the message on to the two students.

2. Travel Plan 1

A. Take a taxi from the airport to the pier in the town of Costa
    Travel time: 2.5-3 hours
    Price: ca. Euro 200
    Note: It is recommended to organize the taxi before you arrive, rather than to
    jump into a taxi at the taxi stand (some taxi drivers do not speak English and some
    may not be willing to drive to Costa).  This is especially important for the return trip
    (Costa to Athens airport), since there will not be a taxi stand.
   
    Please send your flight info to spetses2008@embl.de, so that we can organize
    to have a driver waiting for you. We will also pool people arriving at the same time
    to lower your costs.

B. From Costa to Spetses Island

  • Option 1: By water taxi
    Travel time: ca. 5 minutes
    Price: ca. Euro 22 for up to 8 people (extra charge after 10 pm)

  • Option 1: By ferry
       Travel time: ca. 15 minutes
       Price: 80 cents
       Schedule from Costa to Spetses: 8:00, 10:30, 13.30, 17:00
       Schedule from Spetses to Costa: 7:30, 10:00, 13:00, 16:30
